| Jesuit Missions of the Chiquitos |
|
This site includes six reductions founded by the Jesuits between 1696 and 1760. The organization of these indigenous populations converted to Christianity was inspired by the utopian city of the sixteenth-century philosophers. The style of construction is the result of the mix of Catholic architecture with local traditions. The six towns of San Francisco Javier, Concepción, Santa Ana, San Miguel, San Rafael and San Jose, located in the ancient Chiquitos territory, are living heritage. |
