The diplomatic representation of the Plurinational State of Bolivia has two buildings in the American capital: the Residence and the Embassy office building. The Residence is one of the traditional mansions that characterize Massachusetts Avenue or "Embassy Row". The office building is a modern construction that is located at the back of the residence and was completed in 1978.
The residence was built in the early twentieth century. This house originally belonged to U.S. Senator White. It is one of the few buildings in Washington DC designed in the Spanish Colonial style. This may have been one of the reason that prompted the Bolivian government to purchase this elegant mansion in 1941. Since then it has been home to more than 25 ambassadors and heads of the Bolivian diplomatic mission accredited to the White House. |
